The Twitter location dox is the first acknowledgment of something thought unthinkable in the west, that China figured out long ago - that we do not owe the whole world membership in our town square.
For decades we have opened our communications infrastructure freely to anyone with phone email or internet. But this beneficence has been abused, increasingly so. Why should we continue to grant scammers direct access to our phones, inboxes, and DMs? The human cost has been astronomical. Seniors can’t safely use the internet. Phones are unusable as SIM farms spam us constantly. Everything online is polluted with ragebait slop. Foreign entities meddle in our politics with no restriction.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
