Another one of our "secret" projects is ready. Everyone on the team uses hardware wallets. We’ve tried all of them, and we know the pain well: cables, dead batteries, slow NFC, unclear flows, and UX that feels ten years behind the rest of crypto. None of this matches how Solana actually moves. So we decided to build something that fixes the basics first. No cables. No batteries. No complicated setup. And importantly, we designed and built it from scratch using state-of-the-art hardware, not a whitelabel shell. Just a secure device that fits naturally into the Solflare experience without changing how you use the wallet day to day. There’s a deeper point here. Most hardware wallets are designed as a corrective layer on top of whatever software wallet they integrate with. They assume you don’t fully trust the app, so the UX bends around that assumption. We went the other direction: the Solflare software wallet is secure by itself, and the hardware wallet makes it even more secure. It’s an additive model, not a compensating one. The hardware is EAL6+ certified, and it runs EdDSA directly in silicon. This is the first secure element of its kind to offer a true hardware-level implementation of the algorithm instead of relying on a software version. It gives you stronger protection against side-channel attacks and much faster signing over NFC. Self-custody has always been the core of Solflare’s philosophy, and we’re working to make it both safer and easier. Improving recovery, reducing friction, tightening security boundaries, and building tools that help people actually stay self-sovereign are long-term investments for us. The hardware wallet is one more piece of that foundation. At Breakpoint I will be gifting one to @BenHawkins and expect his public, honest and unfiltered opinion. Hold strong.
