Bhutan has recently garnered attention in the global cryptocurrency community with the official launch of TER , a gold-backed Token backed by the country and deployed directly on the Solana network. This is XEM as the next step in Bhutan's long-standing national blockchain strategy, placing the country among the leading nations in Token real assets.
According to various industry sources, TER is spearheaded by the Gleephu Mindfulness City (GMC) urban development project, a new city that Bhutan aims to develop into a center for technological innovation and a sustainable economic model. Each TER Token is backed by a corresponding amount of physical gold, intended to serve the GMC application ecosystem. Analysts believe that the issuance of gold-backed assets shows Bhutan's desire to gradually build an ecosystem similar to stablecoins but based on asset-neutral resources, independent of the traditional monetary system.

DK Bank – Bhutan's first digital bank under central bank supervision – will serve as the sole distributor and custodian of TER. Meanwhile, the Matrixdock digital asset platform will be responsible for providing the institutionally-approved Token infrastructure. GMC emphasizes that the introduction of a gold-backed Token is part of its vision to promote responsible, transparent, and sustainable innovation – values that Bhutan has always pursued in its national direction.
Initially, TER will be open for registration through DK Bank with a secure institutional-level custody system. Many experts believe that gold is just the beginning; Bhutan could move towards Token silver, rare gemstones, and even cultural and environmental assets in the future to increase the value of resources without on-site mining, in line with the country's strict nature conservation policies.
Bhutan's blockchain strategy has been implemented cautiously but persistently over many years. The country began mining Bitcoin in 2019, taking advantage of its abundant and low-cost hydropower resources. To date, Bhutan holds approximately 5,984 BTC, placing it among the top seven sovereign states with the largest Bitcoin holdings in the world. Gleephu Mindfulness City also announced that it would include Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB in its strategic reserve asset portfolio during urban development.
