According to Foresight News , Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin posted on Warpcast, "One analogy for Ethereum is BitTorrent, which demonstrates how this peer-to-peer network can combine decentralization with large-scale applications. Ethereum aims to achieve the same effect, but through a consensus mechanism."
Another analogy for Ethereum is Linux. Linux is free and open-source software, and it makes no compromises on this principle; users and businesses worldwide rely on Linux silently, and governments often use it as their official system; numerous Linux-based operating systems strive for widespread adoption; some Linux distributions (such as Arch) pursue ultimate purity, minimalism, and technical aesthetics, focusing on giving users a sense of control rather than comfort.
