If there’s one L2 that already reflects where Vitalik thinks the ecosystem should go, it’s @zksync . Rather than positioning itself as just a cheaper EVM chain, ZKsync is building ZK-verified infrastructure where multiple purpose-built chains actually operate in production. Consumer-facing appchains like Abstract, Sophon, and Cronos are growing around the Elastic Chain, while Prividium targets institutional and financial use cases. >> Notably, ZKsync Era ranked #1 outside of Ethereum by RWA asset volume last year - a signal that this isn’t just theoretical positioning. This direction also aligns closely with the next phase of institutional adoption. Institutions care less about ideological decentralization and more about credible Ethereum connectivity, regulatory compatibility, and long-term infrastructure sustainability. In that sense, ZKsync is one of the few L2s seriously experimenting with what “value beyond scaling” looks like, and offering a realistic preview of where L2s may actually be headed

There have recently been some discussions on the ongoing role of L2s in the Ethereum ecosystem, especially in the face of two facts:
* L2s' progress to stage 2 (and, secondarily, on interop) has been far slower and more difficult than originally expected
* L1 itself is scaling,
