Japan's FSA unveils plan to strengthen crypto exchange cybersecurity

Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) on Feb. 10 released a draft plan to enhance cybersecurity measures for cryptocurrency exchanges, Coinpost reported. The initiative is a response to the increasing frequency of exchange hacks and asset thefts worldwide. The agency aims to mandate a Cybersecurity Self-Assessment (CSSA) for all exchange operators starting from the 2026 business year. The FSA noted that in addition to the theft of signing keys, indirect attacks such as social engineering and infiltration through third-party vendors are on the rise, concluding that cold wallets alone are insufficient to guarantee security. The agency will be accepting public comments on the proposal until March 11.
