The John Wick franchise has interesting investing back story: directors were short $6m for first film and maxed out their credit cards (Keanu also ponied up all he could). Talent agency CAA tapped its network for financing and an anonymous person did the deal. It was Eva Longoria and she bumped into the directors many years afterwards — they hadn’t really spoken prior — and she told them “Wow, that was the best money I've ever spent.” There’s no confirmation on her return but she was “first on the waterfall” of payments and John Wick made $86m on a budget of $20m (the three sequels have done ~$1B at the box office).
