As much as this advice is well intentioned, this does not play out well when the number of people is large.
I've seen many a well-intentioned smart individuals try their luck for 4-5 years in non deterministic competitive examinations, fighting against millions for a few hundred seats.
If you're smart, play games where the odds of success favor you.
