According to BlockBeats, on March 24, citing the New York Times, U.S. Department of Defense officials stated that senior military officials are considering deploying a combat brigade from the 82nd Airborne Division, along with some of the division's headquarters staff, to support U.S. military operations in Iran. Officials described these actions as carefully planned and noted that neither the Department of Defense nor U.S. Central Command has issued any orders.
The combat force will come from the 82nd Airborne Division's "Rapid Reaction Force," a brigade of approximately 3,000 soldiers capable of deploying to any location globally within 18 hours. This force could be used to seize Kharg Island, Iran's main oil export hub. Another possibility under consideration is the deployment of approximately 2,500 soldiers from the 31st Marine Expeditionary Force, currently en route to the region, should Trump authorize the U.S. military to seize the island.
