OpenAI officially announced today (15th) the launch of a preview version of its new "Personal Finance Experience" for ChatGPT Pro users in the United States. This long-awaited major feature marks the AI giant's official foray into consumers' real-world financial lives.
Connecting thousands of banks to create a comprehensive "financial dashboard"
In the past, more than 200 million people asked ChatGPT for budget planning or investment advice every month, but due to the lack of "real data", AI could only give monotonous canned advice such as "reduce eating out and cancel subscriptions".
To address this pain point, OpenAI partnered with Plaid, a financial data infrastructure giant. Users can now securely connect ChatGPT to over 12,000 financial institutions. Once synchronized, a dedicated "dashboard" will appear within ChatGPT, providing users with a clear overview.
- Portfolio performance
- Monthly expenses and cash flow classification
- Existing subscription services
- Upcoming bills and payments

Powered by GPT-5.5: Understanding your life and providing genuine advice.
This new feature is pre-loaded with OpenAI's newly released GPT-5.5 Thinking inference model. This model has been internally benchmarked by more than 50 finance professionals and can handle complex problems with high context dependence.
For example, once you connect your account, ChatGPT will find that you've spent too much money on "eating out" in the past two months. Instead of just telling you to save money, it will give you precise goals: "It is recommended to limit eating out to $450 per month and shopping to $300 per month, so that you can expect to save an extra $500 to $750 per month." It can even calculate your monthly mortgage payment plan.
In addition, the system has introduced a "financial memories" function, which allows users to tell the AI that they "want to buy a car next year" or "owe money to their family," making future conversations more coherent.
Ultimate privacy protection and future vision
When dealing with sensitive financial data, OpenAI emphasizes the highest level of security protection:
- Absolutely Read-Only: ChatGPT can only read your balance, transactions, and liabilities. It cannot see your complete account information , nor can it modify your account or move funds .
- Disconnect at any time: Users can disconnect at any time in the settings, and the system will completely delete all synchronized data within 30 days.
- Model training is controllable: Whether data is used for model training depends entirely on the user's existing privacy settings.
OpenAI's ambitions extend beyond simply providing advice; it aims to help users "take action." The company has revealed plans to integrate credit card recommendations and directly assess approval rates. Furthermore, when users inquire about tax issues related to stock sales, they can directly assist in scheduling appointments with tax experts from its partner, Intuit.
This feature is currently available for preview to ChatGPT Pro users in the US (web and iOS versions), and will be gradually expanded to Plus users based on user feedback, eventually being made available to everyone. However, OpenAI also specifically reminds users that ChatGPT is designed to help them understand their situation and cannot replace a professional and licensed financial advisor .
