Gitcoin is a donation platform for open source software. Users can support various decentralized open source projects through Gitcoin. Early projects can also receive donations on Gitcoin to maintain operations. Some well-known projects such as Uniswap, 1INCH, MaskNetwork, ENS , etc. have participated in Gitcoin Grants, so Gitcoin is also known as the "Arsenal of Ethereum".
In each round of Gitcoin Grants, in addition to receiving donations from users, Gitcoin will also use the Quadratic Funding model to allocate funds from the Ethereum Foundation to high-quality projects. This distribution method has also been approved by V God (Vitalik Buterin), which greatly promotes the community influence of Gitcoin Grants. The Gitcoin Grants donation activity has been carried out for 15 rounds so far. In the process of helping the project grow, it also brings rewards such as token AirDrop to donors. More and more users have entered the Web3 world through Gitcoin.
Gitcoin has been exploring more efficient ways to donate, working to move from Quadratic Matching (aka QF’s centralized grants) to GitcoinDAO: creating a decentralized and customizable grants protocol.
Therefore, the new round of Grants Round 16 (GR16) will not come, and will be replaced by the Gitcoin Alpha Round that will last from January 17, 2023 to January 31, 2023.
According to Gitcoin's plan, it will conduct a Test Alpha Round with UNICEF, Fantom, Optimism, and Alchemix in the next few months to ensure continued support for developers during the transition to GitcoinDAO.

Next, Biteye will briefly introduce the differences between Gitcoin Alpha Round and previous donations, and carefully selected 11 high-quality projects for you. Note that participating in each donation round can receive a special POAP .

1. Introduction to Gitcoin Alpha Round
1. The Gitcoin Alpha Round program supports 200 recipients who are committed to open source software, Ethereum infrastructure, and climate solutions. The total matching pool is 1 million US dollars, and the second matching donation is still adopted.
2. The duration of Gitcoin Alpha Round is from January 17th to 31st. You can join the official TG to learn about the latest developments about donations. Gitcoin Alpha Round will adopt a new donation page.
3. Gitcoin Alpha Round cancels Trust Bonus and replaces it with Gitcoin Passport . Users can log in and bind social media and wallets to increase their weight. Only users who reach a specified score can get matching donations.
4. Projects in the Gitcoin Alpha Round will only be generated from previous donation rounds (criteria: grants received in GR14 or GR15 totaling more than $1000 (donation + round-specific match), or at least grants from 150 unique donors), approximately 200 projects were considered for this round of giving, of which:
(1) The Open Source Software Round will consist of grantees from the previous funding criteria of GR14 and GR15 outlined in the governance post , with approximately 250 projects, 87 actually shortlisted;
(2) The Ethereum Infrastructure Round will consist of 32 projects from GR14 and GR15, of which 22 were actually shortlisted;
(3) Climate Solutions Round (Climate Solutions Round) includes 40 projects from GR15 and additional projects under 10 related categories, and 50 projects are actually shortlisted.
2. Gitcoin Alpha Round Donation Proposal
Based on past rounds of donations, Biteye has concluded the following donation suggestions:
1. Although Gitcoin has no limitation on the donation amount, the minimum amount of each project is at least greater than 1U. On the other hand, due to the fluctuation of ETH price, you can choose DAI for donation; if you donate with ETH , considering the price fluctuation, it is recommended to donate 0.002 ETH above;
2. Gitcoin donation is a good chain interaction behavior. Optimism once considered "users donating Gitcoin on the mainnet" as one of the weights of the AirDrop;
3. In the past, Gitcoin donations can be made through zkSync, which not only saves costs but also realizes the interaction of zkSync, but this time only ETH , OP, and FTM chain donations are supported according to different rounds;
4. It is not too late to donate. It is easy to encounter network congestion when donating in the last few days, resulting in missing the donation time.

(1) Open Source Software Round
Open source software is mostly Web3, Defi, NFT and other concepts. The projects on these tracks have also had precedents for AirDrop donors in the past
1. DefiLlama
DefiLlama focuses on the professional analysis of TVL data of Defi projects, classifies the current Defi and public chains, and conducts and long-term tracking of their TVL. There is also an Airdrops on the homepage of DefiLlama, which recommends some protocols that may have AirDrop for users.
2. ChainEye
ChainEye is an open source full-chain analysis tool used by more than 80,000 users. At present, it has BridgeEye (Cross-chain bridge comparison tool), On-chain&CEX transfer fee (on-chain & CEX transfer fee query), Multichain Gas (Multichain gas fee query), Multichain Stablecoin query, ETH 2.0 query and other functions, and will follow up Develop new features such as security modules, nft modules, etc. ChainEye promises to provide users with free data services permanently, and will return the income of the tool ToB to the community and users.
3. Umbra
As a protocol, Umbra defines a set of simple standards for private transfers on Ethereum through smart contracts. Umbra currently supports Mainnet and multiple L2s, and will continue to deploy to multiple chains with funding.
4. Lenster
Lenster is a decentralized, permissionless social media application built with the Lens Protocol . Lenster runs on the Polygon network, so users can interact seamlessly with the Dapp without paying any fees, and no one can delete anything from the app, not even an administrator. Lenster is powered by Lens Protocol , a decentralized social graph built by AAVE .
5. Tally
Tally is an open-source and community-governed decentralized Web3 wallet. It has the expectation of community governance. It is outspoken against Matamask and wants to get a share of the latter's market share.
6. Phi
Phi (philand.xyz) is a metaverse created from ENS and wallet addresses, making it easier to visualize "on-chain identities". It incentivizes users to interact with various web3 protocols, which provides positive feedback for all protocols and accelerates the overall network effect of web3.
7. Optinames
Optinames are tradable and transferable subdomains wrapped as ERC721s and fully integrated with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), they can be resolved on L1 Ethereum by utilizing an off-chain resolver.
8. Soul Wallet
Committed to providing a wallet that explores new ways of Ethereum, you can leave an email address on the official website to get a test opportunity.
(2) Ethereum Infrastructure Round
Although the Ethereum infrastructure has a low probability of issuing coins, it is an important certificate for participating in the ecological construction of Ethereum
9. Chainlist
It has been accepted by DefiLlama and continues to operate until now. It is one of the common tools for querying new chain RPC. It is absolutely worthy of the four words of public goods. It currently supports most public chains and testnets, and can query the delay between different RPCs .
10. L2BEAT
L2BEAT is an analysis and research site about Ethereum second layer (L2) scaling. It provides different non-micro indicators besides total value locked (TVL), and is a very convenient website for daily observation and comparison of L2.
(3) Climate Solutions Round
Climate solutions are mostly public welfare products, and the probability of issuing coins and AirDrop is low. Biteye only introduces innovative projects, and users can choose whether to donate or not
11. TaterDAO
A project dedicated to putting real-world assets on the chain to better count, identify, create and develop climate solutions.
