Telegram, a communication software that boasts high privacy and encryption, has more than 800 million users worldwide. It recently announced the launch of a self-hosted cryptocurrency wallet "TON Space" developed by The Open Network (TON) blockchain at the Token 2049 event in Singapore. , which can be set through the Telegram application.
In response, Telegram founder Pavel Durov posted a message on his personal channel early in the morning to congratulate TON on its booming development.
Years ago, we built TON — a scalable and fast blockchain technology. TON aims to serve hundreds of millions of social media users. Since 2020, TON technology is maintained and improved by the open source community.
Last year, we allowed users to buy and sell Telegram usernames and IDs on Fragment, a TON-based auction platform. It was an extraordinary success. Telegram sold $120 million worth of digital assets at auction, and some early buyers of Telegram-related digital assets (such as Telegram anonymous numbers) saw their value increase 27-fold after just nine months.
This success demonstrates the potential of Web 3.0 on Telegram. For the first time in history, users can directly own their own social media identities. Now we want to integrate blockchain technology more deeply into Telegram. To do this, we are working with people in the TON community to add their TON wallets to Telegram as mini-apps.
Regarding closer cooperation between Telegram and the TON blockchain, Pavel Durov predicted that starting from November this year, the TON wallet will be open to all users outside the United States and some other countries/regions.
This step will allow developers to enable hundreds of new valuable features — similar to those pioneered on Fragment.
TON Wallet is a third-party mini-application within Telegram that will introduce a new dimension of Web 3.0 to hundreds of millions of Telegram users.
TON has jumped more than 50% in a single month
After falling to a low of $1.3 in 8, the price of TON has continued to fluctuate and rise. At the moment of writing, it has reached US$1.95, an increase of more than 50% in the past month.
