This isn't "optimization," it's "evolution." The 4,000 laid-off employees weren't incompetent; they were just unlucky—they were born at the AI inflection point.
The remaining employees shouldn't be too happy either; next time, it might be 4,000 -> 3,000. The workplace rule in the AI era: either become the commander of AI, or be commanded by AI.
