Sometimes I wonder if I'm in the wrong industry.
Take SpaceX for example. They launch a rocket to Mars? Humanity takes a step forward. Their launch failed and the rocket exploded? Humanity can still learn from it and move on. Whatever the outcome, it ultimately promotes progress.
Cryptocurrency feels like a stupid casino in comparison (sorry to the few). Price increased? Everyone cheers, when can I buy Lamborghini? price drop? Many lives were destroyed. What contribution does this have to mankind?
Indeed, building a new currency system takes time. I understand that...but can we make something useful in the process? Now everyone just wants to be the next "V" (referring to Vitalik Buterin), no one really wants to create valuable products, everyone just wants to extract profits.
I really don't understand why this system shouldn't crash? Looking at the big picture, what do we have to lose? The result of cryptocurrencies is just massive value transfer, but I can't see any real value creation so far.
To be clear, making a lot of money by luck and moving the funds to a non-crypto project is not a cryptocurrency success story. At best, this is a success story of a philanthropic lucky person, more likely a simple diversification of his assets.
In my opinion, it's long past time for the industry to create something truly useful that people want to use, or it might as well just shut down.
Bitcoin is at least still trying (albeit unsuccessfully) to become a safe-haven asset. But other projects are just selling shovels without any hint of a gold rush.
