According to a report by CNN, Suzan DelBene, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair, stated in an interview with CNN that it may take a week or longer to determine control of the House of Representatives. This warning stems from the prevalence of mail-in voting, which has made the vote-counting process more time-consuming.
DelBene reflected on the 2022 midterm elections, where it took 8 days to determine which party won the House majority. She expects the current election may require the same or even longer duration. "Some races are very close, especially in places like my home state of Washington where we're still receiving postmarked ballots, so the results may take longer to be finalized," DelBene explained.
It is worth noting that in 2022, the Republicans won control of the House by a narrow margin of around 6,675 votes, with the result coming from five of the closest races. Some of these races were decided by fewer than 1,000 votes. Drawing from the previous election experience, DelBene is preparing her colleagues for the possibility of delayed results.
