When Donald Trump swept Harris and successfully won the latest US presidential election, the focus of the public has shifted to Trump's cabinet list in the post-election era.
For Trump's "America First" policy to be implemented on the ground, he needs talents in trade, economy, diplomacy, border management and other areas who meet his expectations.
This article lists the expected members of Trump's cabinet, such as Dan Gallagher, who is expected to be the new chairman of the US SEC, Scott Bessent as the US Treasury Secretary, Senator Marco Rubio as the US Secretary of State, and Congressman Mike Waltz as the National Security Advisor.
The following are some of the people Trump is selecting or preparing to select, starting with those related to encryption, and then general officials.
US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, nominated
On Tuesday (November 12), Donald Trump announced the nomination of Pete Hegseth, a Fox News TV host and former combat soldier, as the US Secretary of Defense.
President Trump said in a statement: "Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First. Under Pete's leadership, our enemies will take note - our military will be great again, and America will never back down...... Pete will be a courageous and patriotic advocate for our 'peace through strength' policy."
The statement mentioned that Hegseth graduated from Princeton University and received a graduate degree from Harvard University. He is an Army soldier who has participated in combat operations, and has been awarded two Bronze Star Medals and a Combat Infantryman Badge for his actions on the battlefield. The statement said that Hegseth "has been a host on Fox News for eight years, using that platform to fight for our military and veterans." Trump's statement also said that his bestselling book "The War on Warriors" exposed what the statement called "the left's betrayal of our warriors".
Hegseth insists on the decentralized value of Bitcoin and promises not to sell Bitcoin.
D.O.G.E. head Musk, confirmed
In August 2024, Musk tweeted that he would be responsible for managing a US government office called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) during Trump's second term, with the aim of streamlining government spending, simplifying administrative processes and improving the efficiency of taxpayer funds. Since then, Musk has repeatedly stated at Trump campaign rallies that he will cut $2 trillion in US government spending.
As the biggest contributor to Trump's successful 2024 presidential campaign, the latest reports show that Musk has been deeply involved in Trump's decision-making, such as seamlessly joining the phone call between the President of Ukraine and Trump, and entering the Trump family group photo even earlier than Ivanka.
On November 13, Musk released an image with a Shiba Inu image and the DOGE (Department of Government Efficiency) logo. He said: All actions of the Department of Government Efficiency will be published online to achieve maximum transparency. If the public thinks we have cut something important, or have not cut something wasteful, please tell us! We will also list the most stupid tax expenditures. This is both a tragedy and entertainment.
US SEC Chairman Dan Gallagher, expected
Trump has promised that on the first day he is elected president, he will fire the current SEC chairman Gray Gensler and appoint a new chairman, and will immediately appoint a Bitcoin and cryptocurrency presidential advisory committee to design transparent regulatory guidance for the entire industry, which will be completed within 100 days.
Currently, Robinhood's Chief Legal Officer and former SEC Commissioner Dan Gallagher is a leading candidate for the US SEC chairman. Gallagher's career began as a summer intern at the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), became a commissioner in 2011, then entered the private sector, and joined Robinhood in 2020. Since then, he has frequently appeared at industry events, sharing his views with people like Tuongvy Le of Bain Capital Crypto and Paul Grewal, Chief Legal Officer of Coinbase.
Gallagher has long criticized the current SEC's enforcement actions against crypto companies, and said at a hearing in September that federal "regulatory uncertainty" is stifling crypto innovation in the US, advocating for dedicated regulation of digital assets. Gallagher has said he will work to reduce ongoing litigation against cryptocurrency companies and "make a pretty long list of things that need to be rescinded".
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, expected
The most likely candidate for US Treasury Secretary is Scott Bessent. According to the Financial Times, Bessent is a hedge fund manager who has served as an economic advisor to the former president, and is widely seen as the leading candidate for this position in Trump's new administration. Bessent is the founder of Key Square Capital Management, and became one of Trump's chief economic advisors in 2023. Trump recently described him as "a top Wall Street analyst".
Scott Bessent is very supportive of cryptocurrencies, especially Bitcoin. Here are some of his recent comments:
"I'm excited about the president's acceptance of cryptocurrencies, I think it really aligns with the Republican party, cryptocurrencies represent freedom, and the crypto economy will continue to exist. I think Bitcoin is the universal, one of the most exciting things about Bitcoin is that it attracts young people and those who haven't previously participated in the markets. Cultivating a market culture in America, making people believe in a system that suits them, is at the core of capitalism."
According to two people close to the president-elect, Bessent has already met with Trump.
When asked if he would join the Trump administration, he previously told CNBC: "I will do anything at the request of President Trump."
If nominated and confirmed by the Senate, Bessent would hold one of the most powerful positions in the Trump administration.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe, nominated
Ratcliffe was a Republican Congressman from Texas, and served as the Director of National Intelligence in the last year and a half of Trump's first term, leading the US government's intelligence agencies during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Trump said in a statement: "I look forward to John becoming the first person in our country's history to hold the two highest intelligence positions. He will be a fearless warrior fighting for the constitutional rights of all Americans, while ensuring the highest level of national security and achieving peace through strength."
Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee, nominated
Trump announced that he will nominate former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee as the Ambassador to Israel.
Trump said in a statement: "Mike has been a great public servant, governor and faith leader for many years," Trump said in the statement. "He loves Israel and the Israeli people, and they love him. Mike will work tirelessly to achieve peace in the Middle East!"
Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expected
According to a Reuters report on November 11, sources said Trump is expected to appoint U.S. Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. Rubio was once Trump's rival, but later became one of his biggest supporters in the Senate. Rubio defended Trump's stance of quickly ending the Russia-Ukraine war, calling for negotiations to force Kyiv to abandon occupied territories.
National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, invited
The Associated Press reported on November 12 that sources said on Monday that Trump has invited U.S. Representative, retired Army National Guard officer and veteran Michael Waltz to serve as his National Security Advisor. Waltz is a Republican congressman from central eastern Florida, who has been re-elected three times and is the first "Green Beret" member to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and easily won re-election last week. He has served as chairman of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, and as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee and the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. As chairman of the House Armed Services Readiness Subcommittee, he has criticized everything from the Pentagon's teaching of critical race theory in military institutions to providing the Air Force with an overpriced bag of metal liners. Waltz has written that he believes China poses a greater threat to America than any other country.
UN Ambassador Elise Stefanik, confirmed
Trump described Stefanik as "an extremely powerful, tough and smart America First warrior." Stefanik is one of the House Republicans who voted against certifying Joe Biden's 2020 victory over Trump, and is the first House member to endorse his third presidential run.
Border Commissioner Tom Homan, confirmed
Trump announced on the evening of the 10th that Tom Homan, who served as acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during the previous administration, will be in charge of national border affairs. Trump posted on Truth Social: "I am pleased to announce that former U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director, border control veteran Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration to manage our nation's borders (the 'Border Czar'), including but not limited to the southern border, northern border, all maritime and aviation security." "No one is better at managing and controlling our borders than him," Homan "will be responsible for deporting all illegal immigrants back to their home countries."
Homan was a police officer and former director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), who described the immigration issue at the U.S. border as "the biggest national security vulnerability America has faced since 9/11, and we have to fix it." In the summer of 2024, he told illegal immigrants in the U.S. at the Republican National Convention: "You'd better start packing your bags now."
White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, confirmed
She led Trump's 2024 campaign. She will be the first woman appointed as Chief of Staff and may help shape Trump's first 100 days strategy.
Middle East Envoy Steven Witkoff, nominated
