Odaily News reports that regarding former President Trump's issuance of the TRUMP meme coin, Danielle Brian, Executive Director of the nonpartisan government oversight group Project on Government Oversight, stated that meme coins are usually unrelated to any underlying business, and therefore highly speculative for investors, while potentially generating substantial profits for the founders, further crossing the line. Brian said: "Any steps the Trump Organization takes to indicate they are concerned about potential conflicts (especially those involving foreign governments) seem to completely undermine their efforts." Other groups expressing concerns include the nonpartisan Campaign Legal Center and the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, the latter of which sued him during his first term for violating the constitutional ban on foreign gifts and emoluments, but was unsuccessful. Kedric Payne, General Counsel of the Campaign Legal Center, said: "The obvious distinction with cryptocurrency is how quickly you can make a windfall."
