The plan is to put the genetic data of over 15 million users on the blockchain and grant users ownership and control of their own genetic data. Sei states that gene data security has become a national security issue, and 23andMe is currently facing serious financial difficulties, having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection this week. Several state attorneys general have already warned users to consider deleting their personal data from the platform. If the acquisition moves forward, Sei will ensure privacy through blockchain encryption mechanisms, allowing users to independently decide whether and how to authorize the use and monetization of their data. Sei describes this as its "most aggressive decentralized science (DeSci) project".
