On April 3rd, Ethereum developers officially set the deployment date for the Pectra upgrade on the mainnet for May 7th, 2025. This is the largest Ethereum upgrade since Dencun in March 2024, with 11 improvement proposals (EIP) focusing on optimizing blockchain infrastructure, particularly enhancing wallet contract functions and improving the Staking mechanism.
One of the most notable aspects of Pectra is the improvement of wallet contract functions, helping to enhance recovery capabilities and optimize user experience. This will make interaction with Ethereum more convenient, supporting more efficient smart contract solutions. Additionally, the upgrade includes EIP-7251, raising the maximum Staking limit per node from 32 ETH to 2,048 ETH. This adjustment helps validators manage Staking more effectively, reducing the need to operate multiple small nodes, thereby optimizing system costs and resources.
Before deployment on the mainnet, the Pectra upgrade was successfully tested on the Hoodi testnet, ensuring the stability of new features. The official launch in May 2025 is expected to help the Ethereum ecosystem operate more efficiently, significantly improving the Staking and wallet management experience, while continuing to consolidate Ethereum's position in the cryptocurrency space.
