PANews reported on April 28 that, according to Cointelegraph, Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist proposed the EIP-9698 proposal on April 27, planning to introduce a "deterministic gas limit growth plan" from epoch 369017 (around June 1). This is a four-year plan that suggests gradually increasing the limit by 10 times in the first two years (164,250 epochs), followed by a final tenfold adjustment. Theoretically, if the gas limit increases 100 times, Ethereum's TPS could potentially improve to 2,000 transactions. The proposal requires client voting to be implemented.
This capacity expansion attempt is another important progress following the gas limit increase from 30 million to 36 million in February. Feist noted that the gradual improvement plan can provide sufficient optimization time for node operators. Meanwhile, developers are testing the EIP-9678 proposal, planning to first achieve a 4-fold gas limit increase in the Fusaka upgrade by the end of 2025.
