According to ChainCatcher, Matrixport reported that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin recently stated that Ethereum will develop towards a more concise and robust direction, drawing inspiration from Bitcoin's minimalist approach to core protocol design. He advocates simplifying the key code of the consensus layer and enhancing the scalability of Layer 2 networks through more mature zero-knowledge proof (ZK) and Optimistic Rollup technologies.
The Pectra upgrade, set to launch on May 7, integrates the "Prague" and "Electra" upgrade plans, including 11 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs), with a focus on improving network scalability, security, and user experience. Key upgrades include: introducing account abstraction mechanism (EIP-7702), increasing the validator limit (EIP-7251), and doubling the data blob throughput (EIP-7691) to reduce Layer 2 transaction costs. Despite some early issues in the testnet, Pectra is still considered a critical step in Ethereum's development.
