According to ChainCatcher, the U.S. Department of Justice website shows that Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa from Springfield, Virginia, has been sentenced to 364 months (approximately 30 years) in prison for financing the terrorist organization ISIS through cryptocurrency.
According to court records and trial evidence, between October 2019 and October 2022, Chhipa raised funds through social media and converted the proceeds into cryptocurrency, which was then transferred to Turkey and ultimately reached ISIS members in Syria, used to support their prison escapes and terrorist activities. During this period, he provided ISIS with over $185,000 in cryptocurrency.
