According to ChainCatcher, citing the Wall Street Journal, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman previewed a device he is developing in collaboration with former Apple designer Jony Ive to employees.
Altman revealed that they plan to launch 100 million AI "companion" devices, hoping these devices will integrate into daily life. The product is reportedly capable of fully perceiving the user's environment and life without being intrusive, and can be placed in a pocket or on a desk, becoming the third core device people place on their desk after MacBook Pro and iPhone.
Altman stated this would be a "device family" and mentioned his appreciation for Apple's long-standing approach of integrating hardware and software products. He predicted that OpenAI would deliver a large number of high-quality devices "faster than any company launching 100 million new devices" and said the goal is to release the first device by the end of next year.
