ToggleIn the Web3 ecosystem, where community and open source are at the core, Gitcoin has emerged as one of the most important funding platforms, connecting developers with sponsors to build the future of blockchain together.
Let's explore the details of Gitcoin and GTC Token with Allinstation through the article below!
What is Gitcoin ?
Gitcoin is a public goods funding platform for Web3, designed to support open source projects and promote the development of decentralized infrastructure. Simply put, Gitcoin helps connect value creators (developers, builders) with funders (donors, communities, organizations) through fair and transparent funding mechanisms.
Gitcoin ’s unique feature is its Quadratic Funding, a funding model that prioritizes the number of backers over the amount of money. With this mechanism, a project with hundreds of small backers can receive a larger amount of funding than a project with a single large individual donor. This helps encourage community participation, supporting new, small, but socially valuable projects.
Since its launch in 2017, Gitcoin has distributed over $50 million in funding to thousands of projects like Ethereum Name Service (ENS), WalletConnect, Uniswap, Yearn, Optimism… all of which started as community-backed open-source ideas.

Gitcoin Featured Products
Gitcoin Grants
Gitcoin Grants is Gitcoin's flagship and most widely known product. It is a decentralized funding platform where open source projects can receive support from the community through the Quadratic Funding mechanism.
Every few months, Gitcoin hosts a funding round where the community can donate to projects they love. The matching pool is distributed based on the number of backers, not just the total amount, to ensure fairness and encourage community.
To date, Gitcoin Grants has supported over $50 million in thousands of Web3 projects such as ENS, Uniswap, WalletConnect, Optimism

Gitcoin Passport
Gitcoin Passport is a decentralized identity system, designed to combat Sybil Attacks – one of the biggest problems in funding distribution platforms. Users can “score trust” by connecting real accounts such as Twitter, Discord, ENS, BrightID, Google,…
This Passport system helps ensure that funding participants are real users, thereby increasing the credibility of the Quadratic Funding system and Airdrop programs. This is one of the most important efforts to make Web3 scalable without being abused.

Allo Protocol
Allo Protocol is the technical platform behind Gitcoin Grants. It allows any organization or DAO to build their own grant program using flexible modules.
Allo Protocol supports many funding models such as: Quadratic Funding, Direct Grants, Retroactive Funding,... This is the solution for those who want to operate transparent, decentralized funding systems but still control logic and budget according to their own needs.
Grants Stack
Grants Stack is an open source toolkit that allows Web3 organizations or communities to quickly deploy a Gitcoin Grants-like grant platform. Based on the Allo Protocol, Grants Stack provides UI/UX, grant administration, identity verification (integrated with Passport), scoring system, management dashboard, and payment mechanism.
Many large projects such as Arbitrum Foundation, Optimism, ZKSync, ENS have used Grants Stack to deploy independent, transparent and controllable funding rounds according to each organization's needs.
Gitcoin Highlights
- Quadratic Funding: Gitcoin is a pioneer in Quadratic Funding – a model that allocates funding based on community support, not just the total amount of donations. This helps small, but trusted projects to be supported more fairly.
- Effective Sybil Protection: Gitcoin addresses spam and Sybil Attacks with the Gitcoin Passport product – a decentralized identity system that evaluates user trustworthiness. This protects the fairness of the funding system and ensures that Airdrop or grants are not abused.
- Open Infrastructure for Public Grants: Gitcoin is not only a grant platform, but also develops the Allo Protocol and Grants Stack – two products that enable any DAO, community or Web3 organization to create and operate their own grant system.
- Community at its Vai : Gitcoin is powered by the GitcoinDAO, which allows anyone holding GTC Token to propose, vote on, and shape development. This decentralization and transparency are at the core of the project's philosophy.

Token Allocation

GTC Token Release Schedule

- Airdrop allocation is 100% complete.
- Token for team & advisors are vesting gradually until 2025.
- The majority of the remaining Token are managed by GitcoinDAO and used through community voting.
Token utility
- DAO Governance: GTC is the Governance Token of GitcoinDAO, which decides product development direction, fund allocation, and Grants operating rules.
- Proposals & Voting: GTC holders can participate in voting on GCPs (Gitcoin Community Proposals).
- Participate in funding rounds & community activities: In the future, GTC may be used for Stake or incentives in some new funding programs.
GTC Token Wallet & Exchange
GTC storage wallet: GTC can be stored on MetaMask, Coin98, MyEtherWallet, Safe, Trezor, Ledger…
GTC Exchange : Currently available for purchase on Binance, OKX, BingX, Bitget, Bybit,… or swap directly on DEX exchanges.
