Once a darling of the recent Solana meme coin madness, flatulence-themed token Fartcoin (FARTCOIN) is down nearly 28% in the last week to a current price below $0.61—over 75% off its January all-time high of $2.48.
The token’s continued downward spiral has predictors on Myriad giving little hope of a new all-time high before the year ends, with odds standing at just 20.5% in favor of a massive year-end run for the meme coin. The current record stands at $2.61.
That represents about a 14% swing since the market opened on September 11, when predictors gave the token around a 33% chance of reaching a new high mark this year. (Disclaimer: Myriad is a product of Decrypt's parent company, DASTAN.)
Inspired by comments from the AI agent and social media personality Truth Terminal, Fartcoin debuted via the popular Solana token launchpad Pump.fun in October 2024. Just a few months later, its absurdity had permeated the crypto market and traditional media, including a mention on the Emmy-winning late night talk show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
After it hit the gas in the month that followed its Colbert mention, Fartcoin made its all-time high on the same day as Solana’s own current peak in January, and in tandem with the launch of President Donald Trump’s official meme coin launch on the blockchain.
Since that time though, it’s fallen around 75% and lost nearly all of its crypto mindshare according to data analytics platform Cookie.fun. The platform analyzes on-chain activity and social media sentiment to derive a mindshare metric that indicates how much buzz it's creating among crypto enthusiasts. At its peak it was at greater than 2% mindshare, that number now stands at 0.39%.
This week's slide has pushed Fartcoin's recent plunge to nearly 38% over the last 30 days.
Meme coins as a whole are broadly falling, with the category down 7.6% in the last 24 hours alone according to CoinGecko, dragged down by underperformers like the Pudgy Penguins’ PENGU token, Pump.fun’s PUMP token, and Mogcoin (MOG). Leading meme coin Dogecoin (DOGE) is down by 11% over the last week.
