On October 15, according to analysis by on-chain detective ZachXBT, documents released by the US government yesterday showed that the wallet addresses listed in the $14 billion (127,000 BTC) it seized were named in the Milky Sad report about two years ago, saying their private keys were vulnerable. Now the US government says they have custody of these wallet addresses.
Arkham analyst Emmett Gallic, after research, stated, "It appears increasingly likely that the US government orchestrated the LuBian mining pool theft. If true, the US government would be responsible for the largest financial hack in history." While there's no definitive proof, Gallic believes the future movements of the "LuBian hacker" address marked on Arkham will be sufficient to determine this.
Earlier news broke that LuBian, a mining pool once ranked among the top ten globally, suffered a major security incident in December 2020, resulting in the theft of 127,426 BTC, making it the largest Bitcoin theft in history. The 127,000 BTC seized by the US government yesterday stemmed from this same theft.
