The L2 model is also very different from how Cosmos approached federated chains, the Hub, and IBC. Crucially Ethereum L1 is not "first among equals" who are all sovereign and able to communicate with one another. Ethereum L1 is the source of truth and actively affirms the state of every L2 proven to it. It is a much tighter leash and offers much better security guarantees.
