According to on-chain data, this transaction occurred at 6 pm yesterday (24th). The careless user transferred 55.77 BTC worth US$2.1 million, but paid 83.65 BTC, or US$3.1 million, as a handling fee. This fee is approximately 120,000 times the normal handling fee.
Mining Pool AntPool has not commented yet
This transaction was mined by AntPool at block height 818,087, but AntPool has not made a public comment on the transaction, and it is unclear whether it will negotiate with the user to return this huge handling fee.
According to THE BLOCK, the encryption service provider Paxos made a similar mistake in a transaction before, paying 20 BTC (worth about $500,000 at the time) as a handling fee, but only to transfer 0.0008 BTC.
Fortunately, the mining pool F2Pool returned all the overpaid 19.8 BTC to Paxos after confirming the ownership of these BTC.
