PANews reported on January 8 that according to Nikkei News, Japanese e-commerce platform Mercari plans to begin accepting Bitcoin payments in June this year. The service will be processed through its Tokyo subsidiary Melcoin , converting all Bitcoin payments into Japanese yen, ensuring sellers receive fiat currency while buyers can choose to pay in Bitcoin. Prices for items will be announced in Japanese yen, but customers can choose Bitcoin as a payment method on the website.
Mercari is Japan's largest second-hand goods trading platform ("Japan Xianyu"). Since its establishment in 2013, it has had 22 million monthly active users as of July 2023.
