Sonic Labs (formerly known as Fantom) has just officially announced that " DeFi Godfather" Andre Cronje will take on the Vai of CTO.
Andre Cronje becomes the new CTO of Sonic Labs
The above announcement was published by Sonic Labs' official X account in the early morning of August 14.

Andre plays a key role in developing and launching #Sonic , the world's fastest EVM chain, with a secure gateway to Ethereum and true one- Block finality.

Andre Cronje's return, as usual, has caused a lot of controversy, especially after a series of "unsatisfactory" product tests in the past and the decision to "hide" for a long time in 2022 .
In his new Vai , Andre Cronje will continue to lead the Sonic network development team, specifically the Sonic Gateway bridging solution. Fantom 's new CTO Chia :
"A standard Ethereum L2 network will need to continuously get Layer-1 confirmations and reasonable Fraud Proof submission times. With Sonic, as a Layer-1 in the aBFT model, Consensus will be deployed (with Finality time under 1 second) to solve the above confirmation problem. The process of depositing money into CEX will not need to wait for at least 10 confirmation votes. With Sonic, only 1 confirmation is needed to Finalize (freeze past data) of the transaction to ensure technical safety. In addition, Sonic Gateway will also have an emergency mechanism for users to retrieve assets on the chain they have previously transferred money from."
It can be seen that Sonic under CTO Andre Cronje will position itself as a Layer-1 EVM (instead of the rumors of becoming an Optimistic Rollup in August 2023 ). However, in order to not be completely isolated from the Ethereum ecosystem, the Gateway bridge is one of the solutions that helps Sonic take advantage of the fertile infrastructure of the blockchain network with the second largest market Capital .
Sonic Labs also wishes success in the journey ahead with the project's previous CTO Quan Nguyen (who laid the foundation for the current aBFT technology on Sonic and Fantom previously).
Previously in August 2024, Fantom officially changed its name to Sonic Labs with new positioning and a coin swap plan at a 1:1 ratio compared to the current FTM coin.
