Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin is optimistic about the future of the protocol, with identified upgrades that he believes will be on the network within the next decade.
Speaking on the Bankless podcast, the blockchain creator made a prediction that he believes could see people getting involved in running the Ethereum network.
Ethereum nodes will become fully portable
Ethereum is the largest decentralized smart contract network running on nodes . Currently, thousands of people run these nodes in a complex computing environment.
Although the protocol is decentralized, the high input requirements contribute to its growth.
In his prediction for the future, Vitalik Buterin sees ETH nodes running on mobile phones.
He said the team will have breakthroughs in ensuring lightweight computing to make this a reality.

He noted that a mobile node operator can download the data and hash it in less than 12 seconds.
With this node, it would be possible to solve elliptic curve equations to check for snarks. If this is implemented, he is optimistic that verifying a node will become very “smooth and seamless”. Buterin said the challenge with this prediction lies in the heavy data involved.
However, he believes that mobile phones are improving dramatically in boosting storage space.
With its vision, Ethereum seems to be on the right track to redefine innovations around smart contract networks.
Unstoppable progress
The Ethereum blockchain was the first smart contract protocol and continues to set new standards for other Layer 1 networks.
Over the past few years, the protocol has introduced a series of upgrades, including the largest transition from PoW to PoS via Merge.
In the recent Dencun upgrade, Gas Price for its Layer 2 networks were reduced to make the protocol easier to use.
Ethereum has had multiple updates, with more coming in the coming days.
These upgrades are often a way to counter strong competition from rivals like Solana and Cardano.
