On September 19, former US President Trump said that the Federal Reserve's decision to cut its benchmark interest rate by 50 basis points showed that the US economy was "very bad" or that the Federal Reserve was "playing politics."
“I think if they weren’t playing politics, a big cut like that would indicate a very bad economy,” Trump said in an interview with reporters. “Either the economy is very bad or they’re playing politics, one or the other. But it’s a big cut.”
Harris, for her part, cast the decision as "especially welcome news for Americans burdened by high prices" in a statement that exposed how inflation, which has hit American families hard and left voters frustrated with Biden's handling of the economy, is a major political liability for her.
