Old scenario but new damage
By building an image of a successful trader with enviable profits (PNL) in the cryptocurrency market, this scammer manipulated more than 250 users on the X platform and disappeared with a total amount of up to 650,000 USD (about 14 billion VND).
Accordingly, this person (or a group of people) posted a screenshot of a fake PNL taken from a demo account on the Bybit cryptocurrency exchange on social network X. The attraction of these huge trading profits helped the scammer attract a large number of Watcher. Taking advantage of that, the scammer lured his Watcher into paid services, copying his transactions with a participation fee of 250 USD - 500 USD.
Scammers show off big profitable orders to attract users' attention. Source: ZachXBTOne victim, after sending $500 to this person to copy trades, was asked to deposit another $20,000 so the scammer could trade for them. In a very professional manner, the scammer provided the victim with an API key to “track” the trades (which was also fake of course). At this point, the scammer showed the victim a screenshot of a fake PNL to make them think they had made a lot.
Seeing that the victim was already in FOMO , the scammer continued to ask the victim to send another $20,000 so that he could withdraw the profits from that investment. Trusting the victim, the victim continued to send more as requested and was eventually blocked and unable to contact the scammer. By this trick, according to statistics, at least more than 250 X users have fallen victim to this trick.
A man in Hanoi was scammed of more than 30 billion VND for investing in virtual currency.
Not a victim of the above scam, but recently a man in Hanoi also lost up to 30 billion VND because he believed in advertisements about high-interest investments. According to BeInCrypto, these scammers used Zalo and Telegram to approach and entice victims to participate in investing in virtual currency.
Believing in the high profits, this man created an account and transferred money to the exchanges designated by the scammer. Initially, using various tricks, these scammers allowed the victim to earn and withdraw money. After the victim continued to deposit nearly 30 billion VND to invest with the promise of higher profits, the system notified him that he had violated the principle of buying/selling without recommendations and asked him to pay a fee. However, by this time, everything was too late. The amount of money the victim transferred to invest in virtual currency was now just numbers on the screen, unable to be withdrawn.
Therefore, BeInCrypto recommends that users do not participate in investing, trading on virtual currency exchanges, digital currencies, websites, virtual currency investment applications, especially advertising exchanges, promising high profits or attractive investment opportunities. Users need to be vigilant and do thorough research before believing in any potential investment opportunities on the Internet.
