According to ChainCatcher, based on an IBM quantum computing research progress article, Musk inquired with Grok about the probability of quantum computing breaking the Bitcoin algorithm (SHA-256).
Grok responded that, according to assessments by NIST, IBM, and experts for 2025, the probability of quantum computing breaking SHA-256 is "almost 0% in the next 5 years, and will be below 10% by 2035". This would require millions of error-correcting quantum bits, while current systems support at most about 1,000 noisy quantum bits. Bitcoin's hash value remains secure for now.
