Solana officially discontinued the Saga phone after 2 years of launch, focusing on the new generation Seeker.
Solana Mobile has just announced that it will stop all software and security updates for its first blockchain phone – Solana Saga, officially ending the product life cycle just over two years after its launch in May 2023. According to the latest announcement from Mars Finance, about 20,000 Solana Saga devices worldwide will no longer be supported from now on.
Saga was once expected to be a turning point in bringing Web3 technology and cryptocurrency to mobile devices, when equipped with a separate storage wallet called Seed Vault, helping users manage private keys securely and easily interact with decentralized applications (DApps). However, after the initial phase of attracting thanks to the Token and memecoin Airdrop campaign, Saga's sales quickly cooled down.
Initially, Solana Saga was offered at a price of around $1,000, but after only four months, the company had to reduce the price to $599 to stimulate demand. However, sales still did not meet expectations, forcing Solana Mobile to shift to developing the next generation – Solana Seeker, expected to launch this summer.
Notably, the Solana Seeker is described as a device that focuses more on performance, user experience, and enhanced Web3 security. Many experts predict that the Seeker will integrate improvements such as the DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network) system, which allows users to mine or participate in blockchain activities directly on the phone – a direction that Web3 technology companies are fiercely competing in.
Despite Saga’s shutdown, the Solana community remains optimistic. Some investors believe that the launch of Seeker is a necessary step for Solana to strengthen its position in the Web3 mobile segment, especially in the context of the US economy under President Donald Trump, which is strongly promoting technological innovation and encouraging domestic blockchain businesses.
On the social network X (formerly Twitter), many users expressed regret for Saga – the phone that was once XEM “the first mobile Web3 icon”. However, most believe that Solana is on the right track by daring to abandon the old product to focus on a better platform, meeting the increasing needs of cryptocurrency users.
Analysts say that if Seeker truly delivers a stable, highly secure experience and supports a richer Solana dApp ecosystem, it could become a new bright spot in the mobile Web3 era, as more and more users want to bring crypto wallets, Non-Fungible Token , and DeFi to their personal devices.
