On October 30, YZi Labs announced that it led an $11 million Capital round for VideoTutor, an “AI education assistant” startup founded by a 20-year-old Silicon Valley entrepreneur. The deal also saw participation from JinQiu Fund (a fund linked to ByteDance) and Baidu Ventures, two major investors in China’s artificial intelligence sector.
VideoTutor – the new generation “AI tutor”
VideoTutor is described as a smart education platform where AI Vai as a personal virtual tutor to help students learn more effectively through interactive videos, automated lectures and real-time feedback. The product is built on a conversational and contextually aware AI platform, allowing students to chat with AI like a real teacher.
According to the founder – an Asian American “serial entrepreneur”, the project has been nurtured for more than two years with the goal of “helping every student in the world have a personal teacher in their pocket.” He said the Chia came from witnessing many students losing learning opportunities during the COVID-19 pandemic, when online learning became a mandatory trend.
YZi Labs' first strategic move in AI software
For YZi Labs, the deal marks the first investment in the AI software sector since the company expanded its operations in early 2025. Previously, YZi Labs focused mainly on hardware AI and autonomous robots, serving the industrial and manufacturing industries.
