Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published an article reviewing Ethereum's progress in 2025, stating that in the past year, Ethereum has increased the gas limit, increased the number of blobs, improved the quality of node software, and achieved a performance breakthrough with zkEVMs. He also noted that Ethereum has taken an important step towards a more powerful blockchain form through zkEVMs and PeerDAS. However, he emphasized that Ethereum still needs to work harder to achieve its goal of becoming "the world computer as the core infrastructure of a freer, more open internet," rather than simply pursuing short-term narratives. Vitalik pointed out that Ethereum should continue to improve usability, scalability, and decentralization at both the blockchain and application layers.
