Too many mouths to feed, a token allocation dilemma facing zkSync

The longer the wait, the higher the expectations of users. The token airdrop program, such as Starknet Provisions, aims to benefit everyone. However, the Starknet Foundation can also reward only 500K individual users. Too many monks and not enough porridge, the community did not achieve unanimous praise.

As a project like zkSync that has not yet issued its own tokens, zkSync Lite launched on the mainnet on June 15, 2020, and zkSync 2.0, namely zkSync Era, was launched on March 24, 2023. According to TrustGO statistics, even considering only the actively interacting addresses on ERA, there are over 6 million active addresses. The issue of token distribution also poses a challenge for zkSync, which has a large number of active addresses.

Point 1: Simulation Conducted Based On Starknet Token Distribution

In the Starknet token distribution, in addition to requiring a balance of at least 0.005 ETH, other rules include:

(1) Active in at least 3 different months;

(2) Complete at least 6 interactions;

(3) Total transaction amount not less than 100 U;

We conducted two sets of simulations with different parameters based on these three rules on active addresses in zkSync Era.

Plan 1: Filter out 2.78 million eligible addresses;

Active in at least 4 different months;
Complete at least 10 interactions;
Total transaction amount not less than 100U.

Plan 2: Filter out 2.05 million eligible addresses;

Active in at least 4 different months;
Complete at least 30 interactions;
Total transaction amount not less than 500U.

Point 2: The Addresses Ranked 500K-th

We follow the approach of the Starknet Foundation and consider rewarding individual wallet addresses in the airdrop. Trusta’s zkSync MEDIA reputation score is a scientific evaluation of on-chain addresses that integrates Monetary, Engagement, Diversity, Identity, and Age. Through TrustGO, we identified a specific address ranked at 500,006: 0xe175681e0690f252b09bcb0ae92de7428232b975.

Examining the performance of this address reveals that it is truly outstanding. Key metrics for this address include:

Point 3: Analysis Based on MEDIA Indicators

Among all addresses, approximately 2.9 million, or 46%, score above the pass mark of 60 points on the MEDIA scale.

A total of 2,265,883 addresses have completed birdging transactions through the official mainnet bridge, and we analyzed the distribution of the transaction amount based on mainstream tokens.

There are 5,831,239 addresses on zkSync Era that have had token-transfer interactions. The distribution of these transactions was also analyzed based on mainstream tokens. Notably, only a small number of addresses have transaction amounts less than 100U.

Furthermore, 6,192,010 addresses have active interactions on zkSync Era. 52% of these addresses have interacted for more than 3 months.

Our statistics also reveal that nearly 4 million accounts have conducted more than 10 transactions. Further splitting these addresses based on the number of active months, we obtained the following distribution table, with the majority of addresses also clustered in the range of three to ten months.

There are 4,969,711 addresses that have interacted with smart contracts on zkSync ERA, with the majority of addresses having interacted with more than 5 contracts.

When divided based on their **Lite Age: Days Since First Interaction on Lite**, it can be observed that the longer the age of zkSync Lite users, the higher their MEDIA score tends to be

Point 4: Analysis for Niche Population

As a unique selling point of zkSync Era, Paymaster enables users to use non-ETH token as gas token, making it convenient for many users. According to statistics, there are 765,898 addresses on zkSync Era that have used Paymaster. The MEDIA scores of these addresses mostly exceed 50 points, with a high proportion having scores of 80 points or higher.
