A cryptocurrency project that made headlines last year for its iris scanning technology has entered a new blockchain.
According to a new announcement from Sam Altman’s Worldcoin (WLD), the identity-driven project is moving to Solana (SOL) via the Wormhole interoperability platform.
Robinson Burkey, co-founder of the Wormhole Foundation, Chia :
“Bringing World ID to Solana is a huge step forward for identity verification. With the integration of World ID and Wormhole Queries, developers can now easily build real-world user-first applications across Chains, increasing trust in decentralized ecosystems.”
World ID is Worldcoin ’s decentralized identity protocol, which aims to create a more trustworthy cryptocurrency system. Worldcoin and World ID were originally built on the Ethereum (ETH) blockchain , and users can now authenticate identities on Solana that were previously minted on ETH, according to the announcement.
In April this year, Worldcoin announced the creation of its own layer-2 blockchain on ETH, called World Chain.
“Like the rest of the internet, many of the problems blockchains face today are exacerbated by “Bots.” By some estimates, up to 80% of transactions on the blockchain are automated, and while many of them have valid purposes, inefficient Bots like Airdrop Bots often lead to network congestion and high fees. Ironically, this is made worse by blockchains optimizing for low Gas Price and high throughput.
World Chain will solve this problem with World ID. Just as people can use World ID to anonymously prove their humanity on applications – like Discord servers and Subreddits – they will also have the ability to validate their addresses on World Chain. This is optional and anonymous through zero-knowledge proofs, meaning the addresses are not linked to the person’s identity at all, and they only receive a confirmation like a green checkmark.”
