On October 17, Professor Li Kang, Chief Security Officer of CertiK, was invited to attend the 2024 Shanghai Blockchain International Week and participated in the roundtable discussion on the theme of "Data Privacy, the New Challenges of AI Technology in the Field of Blockchain Security". Professor Li Kang, together with two other industry experts, discussed the current status and future development of AI in the field of blockchain security, and shared his insights and trend predictions on this topic.
Professor Li Kang pointed out that although new projects and technologies are constantly emerging in the blockchain field, many security issues are essentially the same as those encountered in the traditional security field. He emphasized that the lack of security awareness, the neglect of private key management, and the security vulnerabilities in system design are still the main threats facing blockchain security. The existence of these problems reminds us that in the face of rapid technological development, basic security measures are still of paramount importance.
Furthermore, Professor Li Kang also discussed the new challenges that AI technology brings to the field of blockchain security. He mentioned that with the continuous progress of AI technology, some fraudulent projects have begun to use AI for rapid attacks, specifically targeting AI-based Trading Bots (trading robots) for fraud. These projects can complete the attacks in a very short time, posing new challenges to traditional security defenses.
In discussing how AI technology can enhance blockchain security, Professor Li Kang shared CertiK's practical experience in this area. He stated that by applying AI technology, CertiK has significantly improved the efficiency of its audit work. The application of AI not only improves the consistency and readability of the reports; through the summarization of vulnerabilities by AI, the efficiency of the audit process has also been improved. Furthermore, the advantages of AI are not limited to smart contract audits, but can also improve the detection efficiency of potential security risks beyond the code, such as by analyzing the activity of Discord and Twitter accounts, as well as recent security incidents, to provide support for the multi-dimensional evaluation of projects.
Regarding the new business models and forms that the integration of AI and blockchain may give rise to, Professor Li Kang pointed out that he has observed some Web3 projects that combine AI with DePIN (Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network), and he believes that the two have natural synergistic potential, and such projects are likely to continue to develop. At the same time, he also pointed out that the current AI+DePIN projects still face many security challenges, and the industry needs to work together to solve these problems.
