Market volatility is soaring under the surface: The average S&P 500 stock volatility is now 7 TIMES higher than the volatility of the entire index. The ratio between the average stock and the S&P 500's volatility has more than DOUBLED over the last 2 weeks. Since 2022, there have been just 2 occurrences where single stock volatility was as elevated as it is now, in December 2024 and October 2025. Volatility is rapidly returning.
