Not mech but met domain, this is creep.  Not possible to a layperson to figure this out while buying a hook at a local shop. The only recco - buy steel not copper

Bought brass hooks for a swing from a local shop. One hook fractured at the top bend after about 8 months of normal use.
Since this safety concern and being a mechanical engineer, I couldn't let it go. I decided to investigate instead of ignoring it.
