Moderators of the r/Linux subreddit are now censoring posts which talk about Age Verification. Not only are posts being removed, but I’ve heard from multiple Reddit users who have been banned from r/Linux for expressing opposition to Age Verification.

The United Kingdom has demanded that 4chan pay a £520,000 fine for failure to comply with UK age verification laws. However, since 4chan is based in the USA, the UK has no jurisdiction to fine Americans in America. “As has been explained to your agency, ad nauseam, the United Kingdom lost the American Revolutionary War. We are not in the mood to discuss the matter further, and have not been in the mood for 250 years.” The letter to the UK’s Ofcom ended by suggesting that “maybe, you could just stop sending Americans stupid letters and acknowledge the sovereignty of the United States.” 4chan’s attorney, @prestonjbyrne also included a picture of a giant hamster dressed as Godzilla.

It looks like the Debian Linux project will soon have a new Leader focused on having fewer "(cis)male" contributors to Debian Linux. Nominations are closed for the new Debian Project Leader... and the election period is underway. Voters have exactly 1 (one) candidate to choose from when they vote. That's right. The Debian Project is giving their members only one option. That person, Sruthi Chandran, describes herself as a "librarian turned Free Software enthusiast and Debian Developer from India". She is focused on what she calls the "skewed gender ratios within the Free Software community", saying, "how many times did we have a non-(cis)male candidate for [Debian Project Leader]?" Sruthi says that diversity should "come up for discussion in each and every aspect of the project," adding the goal is to have "more women (both cis and trans), trans men, and genderqueer people." The idea behind “Ageless Linux” is simple: Take Debian Linux. Run a script that changes a few words to “ageless”, in some key spots, declaring that the current Operating System (“Ageless Linux”) is knowingly refusing to comply with new Age Verification laws. “Software for humans of indeterminate age. A "Progressive Tech Coalition" (including Apple, Google, & Roblox) has abruptly changed stance on "Age Verification" laws. Up until now, the "Chamber of Progress" has consistently opposed all laws seeking to implement age verification... but they have decided to support the Colorado "Age Verification for all Operating Systems" law. What makes this 180 degree change particularly interesting is that "Chamber of Progress" publicly *opposed* last year's California law... which the Colorado law (which they *support*) is based almost entirely upon. Which begs the question: What, exactly, prompted such a radical change in policy from a lobbyist for these Big Tech companies? Chamber of Progress calls itself a "tech industry coalition devoted to a progressive society" which pushes "public policies that will build a fairer, more inclusive world". @ProgressChamber brings in just shy of $10 Million USD / Year for lobbying of "Progressive" causes on behalf of their member Big Tech companies.

Here’s where each of the “All Operating Systems must do age verification” laws are as of today. - Brazil (Law 15.211) : Signed into law. Requirements in effect on March 17th, 2026. - California (AB-1043) : Signed into law. Requirements in effect on January 1st, 2027. - Colorado (SB26-51) : Passed Senate on March 3, 2026. - New York (S8102A) : In Senate Committee. Note: As of today, March 4th, Operating Systems developers have only 13 days remaining before the Brazilian law takes effect. Related: In order to “incentivize” age verification, The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has announced that they will ignore COPPA violations for software performing age verification.

Ready for YET ANOTHER proposed state law which would force all Operating Systems (from Windows to Linux) to include age verification? I present to you: New York Senate Bill S8102A This New York law would “require all manufacturers of Internet-enabled devices, operating systems, or application stores to conduct commercially reason-able and technically feasible age assurance for users at the point of device activation.” You read that right. This would mandate “commercially viable age verification” on: - Every Operating System - Every “App Store” - And every “Internet Enabled Device” (meaning: anything connected to the Internet) The penalty for not complying with this law would be $10,000 per violation. The @FTC is saying here that: - The FTC is more powerful than Congress or @POTUS, and can ignore (and refuse to enforce), Federal legislation entirely. - The FTC wants online services to identify children (in violation of Federal law). - 2 people within the Federal Trade “Commission” can make these, all-powerful, decisions.
