Bruno Fernandes has strengthened his claim to become the 2025-26 PFA Player of the Year, with the Manchester United captain now installed as the clear favourite in the betting market. The Portuguese midfielder registered his 19th assist of the season in Monday night's win over Brentford, extending a remarkable run of individual form. Fernandes has produced seven assists in his past seven Premier League appearances, underlining his growing influence at a crucial stage of the campaign. Manchester United are now very well positioned to qualify for next season's Champions League. Fernandes sits just one assist shy of the Premier League's single-season record of 20, jointly held by Thierry Henry (2002-03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019-20). With four Premier League matches remaining, he has a strong chance not only to match but to surpass that milestone. As a result, Fernandes has been cut to even-money favourite to claim the PFA Player of the Year award. Mohamed Salah took home the prize last season, while Declan Rice had been widely viewed as the frontrunner for much of this campaign. However, his position has weakened in recent weeks amid signs of vulnerability in Arsenal's push for silverware. Rice is currently priced at 7/2. Erling Haaland remains among the leading contenders at 4/1, while Nico O'Reilly has been introduced to the market at 25/1. However, it is Manchester City team-mate Rayan Cherki who is rapidly gaining attention and could be one to watch. Cherki's odds have shortened from 275/1 to 10/1 since March, driven by a series of eye-catching performances that have helped propel City into contention for a domestic treble. United midfielder Fernandes, currently priced at 1/1 by Betfair, still faces Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton in the run-in. Breaking the assist record could prove decisive in a season where truly standout individual campaigns have been relatively hard to separate. His late-season surge could cement his status as the league's standout performer.
